Safe & Comfortable Tooth Removal in Gonzales

Tooth extractions are never someone’s first preference, but sometimes, they’re necessary. At Moses Family Dental, we make it our mission to make your tooth removal as smooth and comfortable as possible.

We focus on cleanly and properly removing the damaged tooth and leaving a wound that heals as fast as possible. We also place a focus on pain management to ensure that you are as comfortable as possible and that any pain is minimized.

This is the safest way to get a problem tooth extracted, and we pride ourselves on gentle techniques and friendly service.

Our extraction services are often routine and planned ahead, but we also offer emergency extractions when composite fillings or other restorative options aren’t an option.

When is Tooth Removal Necessary?

There are many reasons that a tooth might need to be removed rather than treated. Here are the most common reasons.

  • Severe damage and decay that cannot be repaired

  • An infection that is painful and spreading out of control

  • Wisdom tooth issues

  • Overcrowding of the teeth

  • Trauma that is leading to issues with the tooth

Typically, we can treat these issues as routine extractions. We’ll tell you about the issue, plan the extraction ahead, and prepare you for it. However, there are some instances where you need an emergency extraction now.

One good example of this is the sudden, serious break of a tooth. If the tooth breaks badly enough, it’s going to be extremely painful, and it leaves you open to serious and even life-threatening infections. We have to get it out now.

Another time that you might need an emergency extraction is if an infection has spiraled out of control. In this case, the tooth usually isn’t worth saving, and the infection can quickly turn dangerous. Instead of waiting, we solve the problem.

Our Tooth Removal Procedure

Tooth extraction is one of the scarier dental treatments, but if you know what to expect, it’s a lot less stressful.

We take extra care to ensure comfort and safety, and we prioritize after-care and pain management to ease your pain.

1: Consultation

Before any tooth extraction, we sit down and talk to you. We care about your experience, and we want you to know your options. We also let you know exactly what to expect. This helps relieve stress, and it makes the situation a lot less difficult.

2: Anesthesia Options

We offer a variety of anesthesia options, and you will be told about each one. We will recommend the best option, but you do have a say in it.

3: Extraction

If you choose anesthesia, you won’t experience much of this. While you’re numbed and focused on other things, we will remove the tooth entirely from the jaw and gums, and then treat the remaining wound to promote healthy and complete healing.

Whether you’re out for the procedure or simply numbed, you won’t notice much until the anesthesia wears off.

4: Post-Extraction Care Instructions

Pain management is a big deal for us; we do our best to ensure that your extraction site is as pain-free as possible. However, you still need to follow some basic practices. We’ll inform you of those to help you minimize pain.

Before you go, we’ll also give you instructions to avoid swelling, infections, and other issues as the wound heals.

Recovery & After-Care Tips

After your extraction, you’ll want to avoid solid food for the rest of the day and maybe even the next day. However, even when you can eat solid foods, you’ll still want to avoid sugar, hard foods, and anything that is going to irritate the wound. Hot and cold items can also cause pain.

Whatever you do, you do not want to drink alcohol, smoke, or use oral tobacco products. It can be difficult i you’re used to those things, but they can cause infections and complications.

Your dentist will provide a full list of practices to follow after your procedure.

Of course, always go to any recommended follow-up appointments.
